A quick note on the war cases. they are really weak. Ford used a weaker metal in those cases due to war time metal demands. You can tell a war case only by having the third member out of the housing and looking at the back side of the case. Next to the pass side cap are some cast in leters or numbers. If it says war there then dont use it for anything more that a car that is just a cruiser.
WAR case metalugy has nothing to do with "wartime" demands. These were made in the late 50's to mid 60's. No War going on then. As to whether or not they're weaker, that's personal opinion. I'd prefer one over a later 9" std case. The extra rib adds strength, no mater the casting alloy.
I have had good luck with the WAR case. Just don't believe what you read about them on the internet. They say it don't have a drain plug but mine does.
