Most interiors, seem to have 3 or 4 shades, of the same color. My green car, has 3 different shades of green, from the factory. I find it interesting, that the rubber mat has the cut out for the air conditioning drain.
Good to know I'm not the only calico interior owner! You are correct, that is a drain hole. The original owner said her husband had an A/C unit installed for her, from Sears, shortly after she brought it home. I pulled it all out, didn't like the way the unit sat under the dash, hit my knee while driving. It was very uncomfortable. At some point, I'll fix the hole in the floorboard and mat (its on my list!).
For a while I plugged the factory AC drain hole in mine with a rubber plug that screwed into place by being squashed between two washers. I want to say it is some kind of odd freeze plug but I can't recall the application or how I got it. It was one of those things I had hanging around that just happened to be the right size ... Made it easy to take back out when I scored a nice factory AC unit.
Two steps back, one step forward! Made some more progress, although I did have to strip and repaint a couple of pieces. After I got the console primmered I noticed I used a different primmer than the top lid. The overall result would have been a mismatch in color, so I stripped it and re-primmered it. I ended up settling on a darker primmer, which will leave the top coat slightly darker. I also started stripping the back lid that will need a repaint to match the rest of the consolette. Lots of work for a little piece of plastic but I’m enjoying it! Preview of the finished piece, final color of the back side of the top lid.
Kevin, I recall you posting about needing something to replace the felt inside the consolette. I used a self adhesive dense foam to rebuild my AC box. It would be a good substitute for the felt and easy to install. http://www.michaels.com/sticky-back...roducts-kidsteachers-foamandfeltcrafting-foam You dont have to get the purple one with the glitter unless you feel special. I'll keep it mind, looks like a fair option. I'm going to try flocking and see how it goes. I have a little box I found out in the garage, I've never done it so we'll see how the test box goes. That purple does look special though, I think it would look better in RASelkirk car his car's kind of purply! Actually, it looks dark blue and is way cool (IMHO) !!!!!
Had a good morning and made good progress. Added a few more pic's below! Nick and knack repairs. Updates!
Few more updates! Getting pretty close to completion, if the flocking test goes well I should have it wrapped up within a few days to a week. Repainted the clock internals. Painted screws Flocking test, I'll know in the morning if things went well. Pretty easy to do but we'll see how well it turns out. Here's a pic of the completed front lid, clear coated and ready to install after the paint cures.
