Once I weld my cowl cover back on, I might use Eastwood's brushable seam sealer over the spot welds and that should blend them in nicely.

    YES dont do it.

I hate to say it, but if your going through that much work , just take the time to do it right. You need to have the cowl off so you can make sure the metal is at a constant run off. The only patching you can do under the dash will be low spots that water is going to sit in and rust out fairly fast.

for metal prep, I used etching primer, expoxy primer, paint, clearcoat, then undercoat the cowl and under the cover.

oh yea, i definitely will coat it hard with everything i got. i may tack on a little screen behind the vents to prevent any large debris of getting into the cowl.

I first went through the thoughts of reaching up in the holes from under the dash, going in through the grills or cutting a piece out of the cowl to fix mine. It wasn't until someone else pointed out to me just how easy it was to cut those spot weld out that I decided to just do it. An hour later the top of the cowl was on the floor. Only when I cleaned the entire internals of the cowl with a wire brush in a drill, did I truly find all of the damage. Wire brush it and then lay a utility light on the floor of the car and you will see all of the pinholes lit up like the night sky. I cut the really bad parts out and welded in new metal, took care of the pin holes with JB Weld, welded in brand new steel vent rings, used Eastwood brushable seam sealer on all the repair plates and rings plus had the chance to put 2 coats of Rust Bullet Black Shell on everything.

Really glad I did it this way :thumbs2:

3 coats of POR 15 on mine, and seam sealer on the inside. It'll probably be the last piece left of the car 100 years from now.

Here's pictures after I removed the vents, only rust spot is on drivers side and is pictured. passenger side was fine, not too bad at all. what are those splash guards I see on some cars, did they forget them on mine :(?

That wire wheel will sure bring out all of the bad spots but that is a good thing :)
