Very interesting. Mavs I own, or used to own:

    70 Grabber - 200/C4 - No smog pump
    72 Mav - 200/C4 - No smog pump
    72 Sprint - 302/C4 - No smog pump
    73 Mav - 200/C4 - No smog pump
    73 Mav - 250/C4 - No smog pump
    73 Mav 302/C4 - No smog pump

We also had a 71 Ford Pickup 390/4 speed - No smog pump

All these vehicles were original CA vehicles. I don't have my Chilton's manual around, but I think I remember it saying something about smog pumps not coming to Mavs until 74. There were some CA emissions stuff (EGR, and vacuum stuff, etc) put on the pre 73 Mavs, but no pumps that I've ever seen.

they couldnt put smog pumps on the 390 cause it spits so much oil it would drown the pump. thats why they stopped making them.:biglaugh:

:) lol. Say what you will, but that truck was a damn good for everything we threw at it. Hauling, pulling, anything. Very powerful and reliable (might have had something to do with the engine mods my dad did to it, :D ). Still wish we had it... We never had any oil issues with it...

my highboy has one and it gets 17mpg and pulls like a monster, unlike the 89 bronco we had that got 13 and was weak for a 302.It just leaves little spots on the ground when it sits and has to be washed constantly. doesnt burn any oil, just a 390 without oil channel restrictors put in. definately a tank motor with no smog pump.
