Hey Spark,I`ll have to agree w/ you,bit here is what I was refering to.A younger, less experienced person my not jet the carb. correctly or get his timing set right,& a severe lean condition is death for hypers much sooner than for forged as we all know.
couple more random thoughts. You might want to think about mini-tubs for the torque you're after here. Cheaters will help.. but the car is light and it will surely need some extra respect in the twisties. At 6,500+ rpm..the Eddy heads will fit the 351 much better than the 408. The heads have enough porting lattitude to reach an honest 7,000 power peak on the 351.. but probably not peak at much more than 6,200 or so on the 408 since there's just not enough casting to work with. Offset intake rockers would also become mandatory to achieve proper CSA(cross sectional area) to help prevent choke at the pushrod pinch if you want them to keep flowing well on the 408. Might be best to move to a higher flowing head rather than thinning the piss-anski out of the Eddy's. Sell em' and maybe step up to some Highports or Vic's. The 351 would be more tractible due to the higher rpm torque peak. Lots of ways to skin the same cat and some methods will be cheaper than others. What's you total engine budget estimate?
right now I have 295-55-15 et streets on it and I have been wanting to mini tub it for a while. I want to sell the heads too and get bigger ones but thatll put me back on the build too and as of right now 1600
That's what you already have into the new motor?.. or what you want to spend on the freshened shortblock? What size intake valve does that head have in it? 1.9x.. or 2.02? Oh.. and you're OK with having to run premium fuel too, right?
