Wow ... that looks to be a really solid Comet you have there. Very nice starting point.

Anybody know what the deal is with the frest air snout for the air cleaner is all about? My 72 didn't come with that ... California emissions, maybe?

Perhaps swapped in from a later model?

Wow thats a really clean car. Looks like nobody has screwed with it or taken off anything. Nice find. Hope to see it in a couple weeks at the Desert Meet.

Is that a missing air conditioner belt I see? The summer months in Arizona should be interesting without it.

the heater valve is probably bypassed because the heater core leaked. Thts a pain to change. If you want to get your heater going again just go through the boxes at the store and find one that looks like it would be simple to mount and is vacumm operated. Or just get the manaul one and open and close it by hand when you need to. Wont be to bad, we only use them for 2 months a year anyways.

That makes sense that it may have been a motor out of a later Mav.

For the heater control valve, do a search here. Someone posted about a good modern replacement.

If you are going with an AOD I have some stuff you may want. I will be taking out my AOD setup after the Desert Maverick Meet. I may have a buyer for the Trans. but have the kickdown cable, flexplate, blockplate, cooler lines, crossmember etc. that I can sell. I was selling the AOD trans for 600, will sell the whole steup to convert yours for $750. Whithout listing all the details for the AOD, lets just say I built it up to handle a 347 with nitrous. If you want to know more send me a PM.
