i suspect two possible problems. too much fuel pressure. an edelbrock cant take more than 5 psi. you need to test the fuel pressure to check this. other possibility is a float could have sunk. ive seen brand new carbs have bad floats. edelbrock uses brass floats that are soldered together. its easy to get a pin hole in the solder.
I drove the car after switching back to the ported vacuum side... It didn't die but still has a flat spot coming off idle, and The idle is erratic... It was idling at 1000 rpm in gear so I dropped the idle down 900 in park 650 in gear... Before I got home the idle in gear was 1050 in park 1200... I'm done with this carb and brand because my old one had the idle all over the place too, it was 6 or 7 years old and idled funny the whole time... I'm going with a Holley for now, then upgrade to one of those bolt on efi systems as soon as I can afford it....
I made the change to Holley... I should have did it years ago, I found more seat of the pants power, I didn't know was in my car... No more Edelbrocks for me...
Glad to hear it's fixed, was pretty sure you had a carb issue... Lot of folks swear by the ebrocks, some of us swear at them... When you get a chance I'd appreciate you trying both vac advance hookups and report back on you findings...
On the Edelbrock when I switched from manifold back to ported it made a huge difference... on the Holley I have it on the ported vacuum and works perfect... So I can say on my car with the Edelbrock the ported/timed vacuum is the answer, manifold vacuum didn't work well at all...
