You just plug the return end of the rail. The fuel then circulates either around the pump, or you can dump it back into the tank if you want, or your secondary pump tank. It's less modification to your stock tank. A lot of newer fuel rails don't use return lines, but instead use a variable voltage pump to vary the pressure and thus the flow. The picture that I attached still uses a single voltage pump, but by mounting the FPR in a loop around the pump, you don't need return lines from the engine, and you also don't need to plum a retun line into your tank. Much more easier. Like I said, this is the way most of the common rail diesels get fuel to the engine. The diesel pumps are also external and much more quiet than your standard aeromotive pump. Might be worth looking into. It should also clean up the engine bay quite a bit.
