Sorry guys no report tonight. The guy from dynomite tuning flaked on me, no call back or anything! I feel like I got stood up on my date. Maybe the price was too good to be true. But I kept my appointment for Monday so I'll tell ya what the numbers are then.
Ok I'm here now. I was able to put a new distributor in this morning. They are saying that the total advance goes up 2 60 degress which is way too much. They are looking for some springs to adjust the mechanical advance and lower it.
they should start with the adjuster allen inside the vacuum diaphragm. the guy who slapped it on probably didnt bother with it. it limits how far the diaphragm can move..
I was at JB Racing from 12:30 until 6pm They did a lotta stuff. The took apart the distributor and welded some parts to keep the total timing from being so high. But you're right sierra grabber I wish he would have started with the vacuum adjustment. The readings were very bad and I had 4 pulls and with each pull it actually got a little worse. The last one was the worst. But in all fairness they said I needed to come back, they couldn't dial in the carburetor. Max HP 138 at 3447rpm Max torque 234 3075rpm I don't have all the other info, will post that later from my phone. They changed out the coil which actually helped a lot with how rich the car was running, not too much for horsepower. Then they changed the jets and needles which actually made it a little worse in HP but the car ran better (according to them). Total bill (hang on to your shorts....) $582
OK......$582 for less HP and they "say" it is running better. Not really likely in my opinion. When you say they "welded" some parts.....what did they weld? I would seriously complain to the buisness about this one. If they were doing the tuning to give you better numbers and failed,.......why do you owe them to make your car slower? Keep your dyno results and talk to the owner and be civil. Just ask why it cost so much to tune your car to make less power when that is not what you wanted, and go from there. If they are A$$ Hol#$ about it, I say take the dyno results on cruise nights and show ALL the fellow racers what they can expect from the buisiness......after all, you have the proof. I may still give the other guy a chance that "flaked out " on you. Just have the member who suggested him give him a "what happened" call for you .....I'm pretty sure he will if he does alot of buisness with the guy.
There was a dyno here in salem, va. that opened.. it lasted all of 6 months. nice little place, great looking dyno, bad rep from dumb workers there...
what I would be worried about is the power curve and not the max HP.post up a couple of the charts early/late
Holy hell! I paid $250 for a full day with tuning parts included that bumped me from 180/280 to 220/320.
hey Alan, I feel the same way. I feel a little ripped off. But I'll tell you this, I'm gonna go back and give them a chance to make it perform better when I go back. If they fail to do that I will talk to the owner or whoever. I'm always civil, there is no point in raising hell. So yes, I'll go back and see what they can do and if they can make it all better and acutally get me to have more horsepower then it's all good. I do wanna give that guy that flaked a call but I wanna give this shop a full chance.
Did you get some new parts for that price, or just dyno time? Hope you get it running good. Let me know if you need any help or anything. By the way, if you click on my Images number in my sig that's a video of my car being dyno'd at JBA a few years ago. They were really cool to me.
