well i called hedman and they just told me that the shock towers were changed? my buddys got a 72 and they look the same. im just trying to be safe with less headache i guess
The ONLY change to the shock towers was that the braces around the lower portion became more common year to year, then around 74 or so became standard. On the earlier models I believe it depended on having an 8 cylinder, but still, not all 8 cylinders had the towers braced. Someone will correct me if I am wrong on the details, but as a whole, that was the only change, ever, in our shock towers. Besides, that bracing alone is very trivial when it comes to headers. No impact there, just a little extra meat for a stronger front subframe. Dave
Here's an example: Note how clean Mavaholic's towers are! I couldn't find an example of a supported tower that was anywhere near as perfect. So you got beauty and the beast... Anyway, I call them bracing, but tower support is probably more correct. It is just a strap of metal around the bottom of the tower. We got lucky some of our cars got them. Mustangs didn't get these supports unless they were a factory big block car! Stang collectors prize bodys with these straps around the bottom of the towers.
Reinforced towers Mine has the factory reinforced shock towers, still no clearance issues with Hooker 6901's. I have p/s so I did use the drop down bracket for the cylinder-no more problems. Seth
Am I the only one with Black Jacks or something? They really are'nt too bad... I wraped them and they point straight back under the car
