Beat me 2 it Glad to see the car is fixed and was relatively easy fix. Jamie, who told you the ignition box would only last a few miles like that, I've drive over 70 miles that way before, and no problem. Also driven a 76 F-100 w/ a box that leaked all the stuff in it all over the fender apron. It ran for 6 years that way, and ran great. Only changed it because I thought it was something else that was hurting the truck. It wasn't the box so I unplugged the new one and plugged the old one back in because it was already mounted. haha
No one told me. I'm speaking from experience. The duraspark boxes were made to have a resistor wire on the coil, you'll burn one up pretty quick if you run 12 volts to the coil. I've had to hotwire the Maverick twice, both times I had to replace the box shortly after becuase the car would randomly die. I was just giving the guy a hard time on the motor mount. Something about haveing thick skin...
Weird about you having to replace it. My 66 F-100 I wired the whole truck myself, and it doesn't have a resistor wire in it and has been drove hard at the dragstrip and was a driver for my brother for a few years. Never burned them up. Wonder why your's did, or why mine never have?
Your guess is as good as mine. Both of the times that happend the boxes were very hot to the touch, alot hotter then normal. This Duraspark is just a temporary thing for me to get me by for now. When I drop in a 302 in the next couple of years, a MSD box will be going in with it in.
Weird... oh well atleast it was a cheap fix I'll be putting a MSD box in my Comet as soon as I ship it off to be fixed. I got an old MSD 6 box for free
