Yep, I saw that POS too...Just more false advertising. 500HP My @$$. I got news for ya; bolting a set of 289 heads on a '85 5.0 block does NOT make it a 289. It's still a 302. That right there tells you that the guy doesn't know what he's talking about. The car does look nice...probably has a lot of potential...but those specs and performance figures are false...

NO TITLE you have to have a title in indy it might be worth 200 bucks for parts

    Hey TL....

...can't you read man! He has 289 heads and Trick Flow heads
    on that machine!
That's 4 valves per cylinder cool breeze! Of course it's pumping
    500 horses.

Seriously though, it does look like a nice pro street car.
It seems like I have seen pictures of it before.

He just needs to check his description, they look like trick flow heads.

well, that little 289 would run alot better if he would take that Dominator carburetor off of it, but that's an entirely different thread....:D and for the guy that thinks you need a big block to run those big numbers, well, that's just plain crazy talk!! My little small block is setup for 1/8 mile and has run a best of 6.35 @112 mph to date.... next year it will be in the 5's......YOU DON'T NEED A BIG BLOCK TO GO FAST!!!!!!!!! Can you tell I don't like big blocks!!!;)

He also needs to run smaller tires on the back or get more power that little 302 is dieing trying to turn those wide tires.smaller tires and he may run mid to high 12s depending on cam figures, driver, ect.nice car though. Id sell mine for half what he wants.

You aren't running 9s in the quarter. Your car is plenty fast though.

The way that Maverick on eBay is set up, it would take a big block to run high 9s...I GUARANTEE it. I've seen Shelby Cobra replicas with lightweight fiberglass bodies and 427 big blocks that run 12s in the Quarter, so there's no way a normally aspirated 302 with aftermarket heads (no nitrous, no supercharger) in a Maverick is running 9s. With the gear ratio he's running, it would be turning 8000+ RPM too. Talk is cheap, and it appears that sellers on eBay will say anything to hype their stuff. The fact that he's advertising is as a "289" is just plain ridiculous, because he also says that it's a 5.0 block from a '85 Lincoln. I've never heard of anyone de-stroking a 302 to a 289. The only difference between 289 and 302 heads are the combustion chambers, they have nothing to do with displacment...

True, I am not running 9's in the 1/4 mile, I don't even run the 1/4 because I set my car up from the start for 1/8 mile (heads up) racing which is very popular here in the south!! This may be foolish of me to say so but I believe with the correct gear and stall combination my car would be in the 9's in the 1/4, not without some hard work though!! I'm sure the guy really meant that the car was running 9's in the 1/8th mile and the seller conveniently changed it to the 1/4 mile!!;) Some of my Cheby friends have a bad habit of doing that!!!

CometGt.....by the chart on OSCAracing.com its a head up racing program here in Indiana your car running at 6.35 in the 1/8 will run around a 9.91 in the 1/4 mile. Yes that is in perfect weather and perfect driving. Wish I could loose a second to run in the low 6's in the 1/8 mile.

Yeah, i've seen those conversion charts and formulas but have often wondered how accurate they are!! I think I'll stick with 1/8th mile, less parts breakage and just as fun IMO!! Hey Mavrunner, a good shot of NOS would probably get you down there!!!:D ;)

Yes I agree with you on the charts, that is why I said with perfect conditions.....or using Desktop DragStrip Program. I also agree on the 1/8 racing, that is what I build and run my car in, seems to be alot easier on parts. The shot of NOS will be on the car one day, just have to hide enough money for it...lol. Are they still talking about getting a strip at the roundup, and Stephen are you planning to come up this year.

Yes, I am still planning on attending the roundup. Currently I am working on my truck, trying to get the new engine install finished up and take care of all the little bugs that have popped up!!:( So, if everything goes as planned I will be there.....i'm not quite sure if i'll be able to make the actual drag racing session since I think they are wanting to do it on Thursday night and I may not be able to get up there soon. I was thinking I would get there on Friday but we'll see....
