Mine was also bought off of this board. Clint Deal was selling it to fix his daughter a 71 Mustang fastback. We drove up to Charlotte, NC, about 400 miles, to pick it up. Here's a few pics of how it looked then....

A friend of mine was looking for a old Ford to build up and me always liked Mavs/Comets talked him into looking for one.Well he finds this one owner 32,000 mile gem just the next town over.He bought it completely tears it apart sends it to get painted, then gets it together just enough to roll it around and looses intrest in it.Car sat for 3 years that way he decides to sell it of course i just bought my house and have 0 money to spend, another friend buys it,it sat at his place for another 2 years, then sells it back to the first guy who then after a year runs into money troubles and this time 1 month before my wedding i didn't miss out on it.
The look on my now wifes face when she came home and saw the ownership for the car on the table was price less her first comment was "where did that come from and when can you take it back!!!" Of course i said sorry i can't and the rest is history.

Back in '88 my Dad and I where in Edmonton looking for a mustang for my first car. After a full weekend of searching we just happened across a 72 comet gt sitting infront of a Chevy dealership. Dad ran in to ask about it and I didn't even really know what the heck it was.:rofl2: We left for home empty handed. A week later my dad called me to come to where he worked and handed me a check for 3 grand. I nearly fainted. We left for the city right after he was done work and the rest is history. I ended up having a factory 302, 1972 comet gt, with black buckets and a floor shifter. I thought I was the coolest guy in town. That was 21 years ago and I still have the same car. I drove it right through high school and until I was 21 when I put it to rest in the bush at the farm. Five years later I felt it was time for a project so she was resurrected. It now has been redone and is in the process of getting a 408w.

Complete body job and paint job.....10 grand
    rebuilt race prepped c 4 ......1700 bucks
    408w built to 550hp.......10 grand
    still driving your first car....priceless.

Been approached to sell my car several times, but how can you put a price on it? I don't think you can.

Got the inkling for a Comet when I was drooling over some car pics one night... I was looking for a Javelin and dismayed to find that the few left are out of my price range. Found a Mad Max web site and started looking at the Australian musclecars compared to the American musclecars... very kewl history of the "sister musclecars" over on that continent.

The Mad Max 1973 Falcon is a beauty... body like a miniature 1970 Torino... which I think is the sexiest car Ford has ever built... like my dream car the 1970 Cyclone... and those taillights... which were like a Comet... and a little light went off inside my head and I looked up Comet and fell in love with the mass produced 71-77 models.

I started checking craigslist... 2 days later saw an ad that the lady had mis-labelled the header so it was in the wrong category. She was flogging it before "it went to the wreckers because of the rust". Ironically, she works at the Vancouver Sun/Province which is our largest syndicated newspaper company and would have run free classifieds but she had lost the car keys and couldn't show it yet.

It was a few blocks from work... so I looked at it in the dark (I thought it was orange) and fell in love and bought it. Took a month I think... longest 30 days of my life before bringing it home since I had to wait for the next payday.

2nd car I got through word of mouth on this board. Just putting the word out that I wanted another car. Through a chain of 3 people I was brought back to a 72 V-8 that had been advertised at $2500+ but - one full year later - I got it for 1/3 or that because he was moving out of the shop and needed to get rid of it.

Now I have several lines on a bunch of parts I need... just waiting for spring thaw to get the car rolling and rumbling. This forum has been unbelievably fun, friendly, infomative, and helpful in getting my new-old car hobby started and expanded. I was so bored of driving a work van I needed a car with some character and spirit. And quirky. And unique. And noisy.

Next year I build a carport and will look for #3 and I will probably wind up sourcing it here too.

Whisky wants to have Three :D

but da girlfriend won't let mee

will have to hide it cleverlee

It can't get any better than that!... when you talk and people know what you want... good karma comes around once in a while... your car's pretty sweet for a freebie (and your "almost free" mags look great BTW).

My girlfriend is always telling me to shut up... but talking too much has gotten me 2 good jobs and now 2 good project cars... and a bunch of help from people who know what *my* interests are.

    Whisky,

Just remember the words of my son when you find that 3rd project and get grief from your girlfriend.

"Dad, I can always find another girlfriend, but a good old car is hard to find".

The girl went along with his purchase. Food for thought.

    Jamie,

The Grabber I bought was the green one. The yellow one from which Tim sold you the motor/trans is still waiting restoration, the last I heard.

Whether they are from Wash, Mich, Md, Ind, Ky, Ala, Ga, or Fl, all the folks I have dealt with here have been great, too.

    It's all good.

    Jim

Were to start I have has so many Mavericks and Comets it is hard to remember them all but the two I have now are both 72s, a Grabber and a very nice show car.

Unlike most people I paid a lot of money for my cars $4,250 for the Grabber and $5,800 for the show car but neither needed anykind of work done to them and as we all know that can get very expensive quick.

I found the Grabber from a listing on this site from a person in Yelm Washington but didnt have the money to buy it. I did have another 72 Grabber that needed some work and lots of parts to go with it that I had purchased for it, so after talking with the owner and making a commintment to buy the car the selling began. I was able to come up with the needed funds to get the car in 2 weeks.

The second car I found on Craigslist just 60 miles from my house, original owner had it, I saw the pictures and new I had to have the car, it had all the interior options of a Grabber except none of the exterior options so basically it was a plain jane car with deluxe interior and conditiion of the car was a 8 at least. It had a recent paint job beautiful chrome great running gear, I added some wheels that I had and some carpet since it had rubber floor mats and I had a sweet driver.

So maybe the cars were not cheap by any means but I was able to get in and drive them from day one and the show car has won throphies and provided me with many hours of talking with people about Mavericks.

The 72 Grabber spends most of its time at the drag strip were it can hold its own for looks and speed against other cars in my class and it makes it to car shows as well and just love the looks on peoples faces when I show up and they here the rumble of the motor and if it the right kinda show I will give them a nice burn out to remember the car by. Got to love it when you drive by cars and set there alarms off.

Thats my story and I am sticking to it

Found mine on Craigslist in Cooksville Tn. for $1200. That was a 15 hour round trip for me and very well worth the trip. I have always loved these cars, and I always have wanted a Maverick or Comet. Now if I just had the money to fix it up a little more.
