I see two every day, the two that are sitting in my driveway. Other then that, I have seen maybe 4 randomly driving around here in the past 6 years, the first was a brown big bumpered 4 door Comet, then a primered 2 door, then a yellow big bumpered Comet that had seen better days, and the highlight being a 302 Sprint driving by as I was pulling out of my neighorhood. You just don't see them around here, except in the junkyards. I have seen three driving around in NC. One was an all primer small bumper 2, then a yellow small bumpered 302 4 door, and the other was a slightly surface rusted baby blue small bumpered 2 door. I know of at least 15 diffrent Mavericks (besides mine) sitting in GA and NC, none of them can be bought for one reason or another.
I started a mental list when I bought mine... so here's the official count for Abilene, TX (so far) 1. Mine 2. lime-ish 4-door a fe blocks over (daily driver) 3. copper/white 2 door near campus (street rod) 4. white, clean 70 2-door near campus (made offer, wont sell) 5. blue/white 2-door, saw once, never again (resto-rod) 6. green metallic 4-door at apt. complex (never seen it move, has no side glass-thinking about hitting up owner for purchase. 7. black/brown accent 74+ 2-door with LDO molding and all the metal trim--on a wrecker going out of town...I tried to follow for a while to see where it was going 8. 70 grabber in vacant field...found owner...she wants 1200 AS IS (car hasnt been licenses or inspected since 1981 9-10. two parts cars for somebody's project sitting outside an RV dealers shed near the freeway...we've all seen ones like this, right? 11. really nice (from the distance) pre-74 Comet GT in vacant field (working on this one, trying to find owner) 12-19. All sleeping quietly at FM 600 wrecking that should cover it for me......for now...
the one in the black hole probly doesnt count as only about 35 lbs of an original maverick still exist there. but it is still titled/licensed as one , so ok, one daily....otherwise, almost never.
Other than my own, my best friend has a white '76 4 door comet at his house, its not tagged so its never on the road. There is the guy who has a '72 351W who sold me a bunch of stuff for mine, but he rarly drives it. I know of 2 other guys in the area with mavericks one with a brown '72 4 door and someone else with a blue small bumper ford with a turbo 302 i seen once at a car show. None of these guys ever drive theirs though. There is also a white '73 pinto wagon driving around alot and yesterday I passed a sky blue mustang 2 that had one of those "turtle boxes" on the roof like you would usually see on a minivan
I see two on a daily basis: the one currently under construction in my garage and green 75' or 76' that an OLD lady down the street from me owns. The car has not moved in over a month now, so wonder if she even drives it anymore. I've seen how she drives. As the late Steve Irwin would say, " Danger, danger, danger!."
I see a small bumper primered 4dr on a normal basis. The same green one as the doll`s and a tan small bumper 2dr. And my driver 4dr
Ohh, I forgot one. There is a very dark red/maroon 70-72 Maverick that sits on the side of the road (Main St.) in the small town of Ball Ground, GA. It belongs to some people that run a restraunt there and can be seen on weekdays during buisness hours. It has been a daily driver since new and my grandpa says he can remember seeing it sit in that same spot on weekdays all the way back into the early 70's and I personally remember it back into the early 90's. The paint is getting a little dull now days, but the car still looks basically like it always has. I might try and get a pic of it if it's there when I go through tomarrow. I have never seen another Maverick the same color. One of these days I might ask if they'll sale it.
i saw one parked on the side of a residential road about 1-2 months ago.. then i saw the one at cordova 3 weeks ago.. and then of course there is mine.. i look at it every day and dream a little dream
I see alot here out in the country i know about 5 people that own them, theres one @ a shop down the road, and there always for sale, but way to much. 4-5 thousand for a mav thats in crappy condition.
I know where tons are sitting, but on the road I see one brown 4 dr maybe once a month other than that and the 2 beside my shop...none!
Well my "stomping ground" is central Iowa in the Des moines area and then I live 30 miles south, My regular routine is to drive 35 miles to work, I see 1 about every 6 or 7 months, .. that's it , It is a Green '76 4 door in excellent shape , Funny and embarrasing story on that one. In a small town south east of Des Moines. 15-20 miles. Was sitting out in the car waiting on my wife to run in to Trailer Mart, This Maverick pulls in next to me, ( Same pea green one ) A high- school girl gets out, I said nice car is that a 76 or 77 she says '76, says she likes it alot but wants something newer and its for sale for $2400, I tell her about his website and MCCI. Of course this girlo is just some highschooler that really could give a rats - ss about a car club but, But she was polite and just said thanks. Fast forward about 8 months, I anm with My wife at the grocery store in West Des Moines, getting gas. Up pulls this Maverick, pea green I am thinking you know that color is one of the few colors I see around here, My brain litereally didn't make the connection, i actually thought this was a different pea green 4 door . Anyway this girl gets out , didn't look familiar and she's with this guy, I start in about the car again blah blah blah, , she says yeah I think we've met before, ( DUH it hits me this kid thinks I am the dumbest person on earth , Anyway I avoid this story around my wife 'cause she gives me so much --it about this lapse of brain wave activity. I can only plead that I am so caught up in my love for these cars that , My brain freezes up every time I see one. The last time I saw another Maverick was about 2 years ago 10 miles further east of that same town, it was another 4 door for sale, rough interior but good body Red 76 or 77, Just parked on a lot next to a house the owner owned but didn't occupy. That car ended up getting sold. I have not run accross another Comet 2 or 4 door in my area at ALL, so my car is truly one of a kind in the cetral Iowa area , that I know of anyway.
I rarely see any (other than my own) but I just saw a white 73 two days ago. I had my wife take a couple pics of it. The only other one I've seen this year was a 4 door at a body shop this summer. It was for sale for $1800. We just happened to have a camera with us and took a few shots of it. (That's what's great about having a photographer for a wife, there's almost always a camera available)
