No, I have been killing a bunch of old demons I needed straightened out. Re-did my rear gears to lose the whine on deceleration, checked my axles (still straight), had driveshaft balanced and straightened, new u-joints, and still don't have the trunk carpeted so I can't mount the battery. Found a hidden chunk of rubbed wire that was shorting out my fuel pump periodically. Just lots of little things I wanted to correct so my list of "things to do" doesn't get astronomically long.

So, since the new engine has been put in, I have only driven about 50 miles!!! The rest of the time it has been put up on jackstands and I have been working UNDER the car.

Track won't let me on until the battery is mounted, so I will have to finish the trunk and carpet it, buy a decent battery box, and mount it before I can race it.

    I am getting there...

Why? I had mine dynoed and he made all the pulls in 4th gear. All the dynos I've seen done at car shows always use final gear for their test. Is there something different I missed?

Dyno pulls are typically done in the gear that is 1:1. This simplifies the calculations for torque multiplication. Other info that gets input includes tire diameter, and rear gear ratio. Those numbers need to be taken into account so that you have a more direct relationship to the numbers from other vehicles. If you are only using the dyno to tune your combination, you can get the same diagnostics info (air/fuel ratios, exhaust oxygen content, exhaust temps, torque and HP curves, etc. ) in any gear. The HP and torque readings will be meaningless for comparison with other peoples cars.

Now there's some advise I hadn't heard. Please tell us more (what happened to make the clutch 'go' on the dyno that wouldn't cause it to 'go' on the street or track)?

I know of many 4, 5, and 6 speeds that have been on the dyno several times. The dyno operator doesn't side step the clutch in 1st or speed-shift into 2nd, 3rd of 4th gears (4th gear = 1:1 ratio) - well, at least they aren't supposed to.

If a clutch goes out while on a dyno, odds are, it was going to go out soon enough.

Of course, that's my opinion and does not necessarily represent the views of mmb.maverick.to nor any of its members. All rights reserved. Your mileage may vary. MMVIII
