Yeah $3500 is a little on the stupid side but Dart blocks require more machine work to make them useable. Lifter bores need finished and sometimes aligned, decks need finished, sometimes even the oil pan rails. And then, if you're going to a +.125" overbore... You can usually figure $700-$900 dollars over the price of the bare block.

Man this is good information. I figure 600hp should be streetable, of course I don't know that for sure but that's my guess. I really would like to add some sort of a power adder to get it in the 1000 hp range, really just for bragging rights and it seems like turbo is the most streetable but nitrous might not be a bad idea either. I mean I could add a 400hp shot couldn't I?

I would guess around $15,000 to have a complete engine ready for a power adder.

For the streetability part look up murder nova on youtube,it's a buddy here in okcs car. F3 procharger over 1700hp and he drives it ALOT,when hes just drivin around he runs pump gas and just keeps it outta boost.

I've been thinking about this for a while myself. I'd love to have 500hp to the rear wheels meaning I need 600 at the crank. It needs to be lightweight with lots of low end torque for pulling out of the corners. It needs to be pump gas friendly and cruise down the interstate getting 20+ MPG. Oh.... and I need it on a budget. No LS motors allowed. Blowers, turbos, superchargers, all add weight and cost big money.

The standard 427 crate motor builds from most any of the shops will get close on everything (550ish HP) but the price especially when you start looking at EFI. But then again. Their dyno numbers are also flawed in that they are not taking into acct the parasitic loss of crank driven accessories like AC, Water, Alt, Pwr steering...

Im now making my goal a little more realistic with trying to get the power in the RPM range I can use it most.

So... what are you looking to do with this motor. Its pricey to get 1 to do it all.

I couldn't find the parts list for the short blocks that dart sells. Are those pretty stout?

They don't really list the specs on the parts on the "small" 347 smallblock.

But on the "Big" 427 small block it has all the good stuff:

WOW!, 1000HP..............now that is some serious $$$$$$$$$$$$$
I know you have already thought about this, but with those small tires out back I would think you'd have to drive with an egg between your lead foot and gas pedal.
Will your current suspension handle that kind of HP.
Have you got some 13" front disc's or bigger in the front and at least 11" in the rear?
If I were going to shoot for that kind of HP I'd want to have the complete block blue printed.............Line Hone'd, decked to the crank centerline, lifter bores clearanced, internal balancing and clearanced to nano gram, as the blocks really need some attention before they can take that kind of punishment. I would be putting a Bryant or Crower crank along with not just your standard "Made in China" H beam rods, maybe Cunningham or Crower and some really good pistons, not your garden variety $500 set, and while you are at it have someone make a special roller cam that will make real HP but still be streetable from stop light to stop light, some really stout push rods and along with some Jesel shaft mounted rockers.
I think 1000hp can easily be made but I would run injection and a turbo.
Then ofcourse you will need the trans to take that HP.......................my guess is $15k for the motor and another $3k for the trans.
I am already in my refreshen'd 408 $4k, and that is just taking care of CHP's mistakes when the "crate motor" went together some 11 years ago.
"Cubic inches make Big HP, and it takes Cubic bucks to make the HP" IMHO

The replacement for displacement is forced induction!

Mines a 447 and on a 300 shot it made 950 at the rear tires. That's with a lazy nitrous cam and a super-tight nitrous converter.
