I believe either or/any points conversion is better than what ur struggling with. I am not sure if this is all u need - if the dizzy shaft is wobbling to any degree u may have to replace it. Any way u cut it, ur better-off dumping those points. As far as the tank I can't really see enough of it to make any kind of judgment. All the guy's that have posted in this thread are long time Ford enthusiast; very knowledgeable about these cars and Fords in general. I have only been back in the hobby a little over 5yrs., after being absent many decades. I'm saying this cuz I have learned a lot from them - save me lots of grief/money/time and frustration. If ur master is rusty and leaking it's a sign of it needing attention if not replacing. If the MC has rust, most likely the wheel cyl. have it to. I wud have more concerns abt that then the point conversion. JMO... Here is what my wheel cyl. looked like when I got my car. I had never seen any this bad in my years of being a car guy. The car had new drums and rotors - can't figure out to this day why the PO put on rotors and drums w/o replacing cylinders and calipers which were almost as bad.
Thank you Mojo and you're right, this forum is very helpful. I never thought about being concerned where it was dripping, but yeah you're right. It drips down from the master cylinder so I should probably see what the damage to other parts that has caused. That will be my next project after this part. I noticed you're a HAM enthusiast. I myself am not, but it seems like a bunch of those guys are EEs. Just curious as I'm an EE and while I'm not a HAM enthusiast, I am trying to learn a bit more RF and HAM radio seems like a good way.
I got one of that!! Here is what my rear cylinders looked like. The guy I bought the car from told me that he just rebuilt the rear brakes and had new parts in the box for the front. I notice the rear wheel cylinders had a lot of dirt and surface rust to be new...so I had to take a peek inside.
