New MII suspension, any hints/suggestions for possible installation glitches?

For those of you who have installed these, what kind of welder did you use?

 

I was thinking that was the way it went.

I recall now that, when we began stock car racing back in 1980, we had to run stock coil springs and the one we were told to look for was stock for a Dodge 2 wheel drive pickup with a set rate - we couldn't find that spring so we wound up with a lighter one from the front of an Olds Vista Cruiser, we had to cut 2 coils off of it anyway to lower the car down and then had the spring rated at Jimmy Spencer's shop and it came out real close to the Dodge pick up spring

I have a Hobart 125, supposed to be good up to 1/8". Not sure if it will work or not for this.

Since I don't have my instructions yet, which spot welds need to be drilled out, and which do I just cut away?

 

any frame work, use a 220v welder. learned this on my impala. my 110 just wasn't up to the task.

 

I will see if my cousin has a 220 mig.

 

A frame on an Impala is a little thicker than what your Maverick is built of...

 

I would rather have too much welder, than not enough...

The plate on the new crossmember is 1/8".

 

What does your welder say it'll do?
My Lincoln 140c will do up to 3/16", and from what I've been told, that's what R&C uses. I've welded up some 1/8" square tubing, and didn't have any issues with penetration, I cut it all apart just to see.

 

Welder says it can handle 1/8" max. The material on the crossmember where it welds to the frame is 1/8"

 

Yup, see if you can borrow a heavier welder, or see what a mobile welding service would charge to come burn it in for you.

 

my instructions only told me how to install it...1 measurement...
the taking apart instructions were not there...

 

Oh! Well then, I have the EXACT SAME instructions!

But i just finished watching a 30-minute long youtube video where they put one into a fairlane, and it helped out tremendously.
