    Yea. The chain has broken one of mine before so I don't take a chance anymore. I strip off the carb also..

    I always remove the valve covers intake and heads, Then work my weigh down until i can pick the motor up with the help of a friend cause engine hoists are to expensive

    I have pulled so many motors I lost count.....each one calls for different things to be stripped first

    A hoist is worth every penny.


    The only trouble I could see in having you own hoist is it makes things more easier and buying one Comet or Maverick can turn in to addiction.

    I remember a year or two ago there was a guy on this site that was selling his Mavericks and said he was now buying guitars.

    Only trouble with owning an engine hoist is everyone wants to borrow it, (and you) to pull a motor.
    That's why I am going to borrow a hoist when it comes time to pull my motor

    And unless you have a huge shop, that hoist just gets in the way the rest of the time.

    I actually disassembled mine and hauled it up into the attic. The ram was still over 100 lbs, and a major hassle.

    Had to take it down a couple times, to swap my boat motor. Took it down last week and put it in storage unit. With the engine stand, wheel dollies, motorcycle jack, and all the other junk that has been sitting in my attic.

    As far as my neighbors...they are smart enough to shy away from any serious mechanical work. They just stand around in awe when they see me working on my car. not that I am a car mechanic/god (by a long-shot), but they just have a difficult time changing their oil without calling me over to help...:rolleyes:

    I like that it folds up. I had been keeping it in a corner, but now I use it to pull posts out of the ground.

    That guy bothered me so much and can't even begin to remember all of the stupid but this one was a classic. He said "all I need is a windshield and can build everything else".

    Maybe if we could find him a Maverick windshield he could build a new one with all of that new Maverick sheetmetal his parts store has! :rofl2:

    He also said he had a buddy that bought a 4 door 62 Falcon for $3500 just because it had one part on it he needed.

    At least I know what his van looks like now....so I can NOT work on my car when he's visiting!
