Well, I don't. Though I'm terrified to find out how much it'll cost for the dual. I was also wondering if the Y pipe on the Econoline will work on the Mav?
Ok, guys. This is me and cars: I am a classic car nut and love to see cars in their original glory. I believe originality means more than hot rodding a motor up. Though it would be awesome to have 300HP+ motor, I don't want to die!! These aren't exactly the safest cars out there. Awesome, yes! But I'm "old school" when it comes to older vehicles. Just my opinion. I only want a 302 in my car b/c it came w/ one from the factory. I bought this car from my brother, and when he got it it didn't have an engine. So he put a 200 I6 in it to run around with. It'll have a 302, maybe not completely stock (my own small mods and differences), but I think it would be nice to have an AOD tranny for the extra gear and gas mileage (thanks to high gas prices). This is not a show car...yet. Just so guys know where I'm coming from.:Handshake
Well, I suppose I could agree with you on that, as it seems everyone and their brother has had one of these at one time... But for me, boring is the wimpy 200 engine compared to the mighty 302!! Putting a 302 in my car is something I've always wanted to do and felt it was out of reach. I don't make much money, and can't afford spending big bucks on this swap. Now, it appears I can afford my time, money and efforts to creating a nice, driveable, fairly quick car. It'll take me some time. I'm very patient, but to a point, then I get a bit impatient (especially when things go wrong). And I'm sure most of you know what I'm talking about. Anyway, getting back to PaulS's question, it's an 86 or 87 Econoline and it had the AOD from the factory.
I really don't think so... may as well use the downpipes from a Honda. But to get a decent dual exhaust fabbed by a muffler shop... not much.
Would you mind sharing with us where you get AOD's done for that price? Last time I checked they run about $1000 more than that.
I'm starting to wonder whether or not the tranny even needs rebuilt. It shifts perfectly, just makes a some kind of whirring or something like that. I didn't hear it, but my brother says it does. Though everything works perfectly. As my brother says, "Drive it till it blows"
By the way, my nephew had an AOD gone through and it cost him around $900. However, there were major issues. It wouldn't shift at all and if it did it wouldn't come out of gear except for Park. They did a lot of stuff to it. Apparently a bearing broke and it caused a bunch or problems with the tranny getting pressure to shift.
It's called shopping around. Also, PaulS, maybe your prices are a little high..., after all, you are in business to MAKE MONEY I'm sure. I live in the Mecca for car restoration so EVERYTHING tends to be on the cheap side. Even parts at your local Autozone, Kragen etc. tend to be cheaper. I love it. You can also do it yourself if in fact it does need to be rebuilt. Who wants to be bothered looking for the parts to put a I6 together for a V-8 application. I started out on that hunt, but after a few days, i forked out the dough for a V-8 c4. Each there own. I have (2) I6 c4's sitting in my garage in good working condition.
The kit alone sets you back 200-300 dollars, you need to add labor to that. Not everyone has the know how to do one of these. So it's a bit misleading to say an AOD rebuild costs only $300.
