To be rebuilt rite, he will have to buy extra parts that does not come in the tci kit. if he says that the stuff in the kit is all he needs, i would find me another rebuilder.
Until you get it apart, you don't know about everything you may need, unless you've already had it apart all the way and have checked each and every part. Bought a "good" used trans once. By the time it was freshened up, it came to $400.
