Don't remember actual flow rates, but it feeds my SBC with 4160 Holley on a performer with no problem
Get a gear drive, Detroit Locker, and Rattler balancer... Then you won't notice your pump so much. Where do you have it mounted? I had a car with a Holley blue mounted on the firewall, on the driver's side... Talk about something to drive you nuts! For the least sound, they should be in the very back, rubber isolation of the bolts, and a strip of rubber wrapped and slid between the mount bracket and pump itself. That is about as good as it gets. I ran a Carter Strip pump on an SBF before, and it was PLENTY of fuel volume. Just a thought if you decide to steer away from electric. Good luck Dave
Can we take some pic's and post them of pumps and how, where you have them located? Also, on the reason why you decided on running a electric pump and do you have a regulator installed!
Andy, I don't think I can get flow info or part number as it has been years since I installed it. At one time even Pep Boys sold these. Can't even remember the brand, but it is a very inexpensive generic electric pump. It's a little square boxy pump like a carter. I have it mounted on the frame near the tank. They are pusher pumps and work best close to the tank.
Ok thanks. I didn't know if you knew the part # or if it was still on it. I'll check them out eventually, not hurting for fuel at the moment tho
http://www.napaonline.com/masterpages/NOLMaster.aspx?PageId=470&LineCode=BK&PartNumber=6101051&Description=Fuel+Pump+(Solid+State+Cube+Type) Here is a updated pump from napa, most other parts stores will carry something like this. Dont think they will outflow modern hi-po mech pumps (30 gph) but a decent pump for most street cars. as hotrodbob said Remember electric pumps are made for pushing gas and not sucking up to firewall than pressure!
I had a Holley Blue which was extremely loud. Then I bought a Paxton (high dollar) and it was just as loud as the Holley. I once left the Paxtom suspended only by the fuel lines and turned it on. It was still loud. So it really doesn't matter how its mounted, it will be loud.
This is looking toward the front from the rear bumper, mounted to left frame rail with tank on the right side. I bet if i swapped out that thin rubber that came with it and put in something 1/4" thick, it would quiet it down A BUNCH!!! It was just way too hard to install it without help, since it is bolted into the innner fender well in the trunk...need someone underneath with a wrench, someone else in the trunck with the other one...
Thank you all for all the positive comments and suggestions. It's raining today in MD so I might crawl under and try some different things depending on the game. The pump is mounted above the sending unit on the back side of the trunk just above the rear. It is secured with 2 bolts with 1/2 rubber gasket backing between the car and the pump. I was thinking of cutting a ridged piece of tire and securing it to the car then the pump to it to isolate and harmonic noise. I might give that a shot. This leads to me to another question, is the Holly blue overkill for a Duel Quad Carter AFB competition series 625cfm ea. set up, my regulator at the carb's is set at 8psi
like I said earlier, mine will cavitate when I get down to around 1/4 tank because it is mounted little higher than the sending unit...see how it is mounted above the middle lip on the tank? The lower you mount it the better it will work. When it starts to cavitate, it gets about 4 times louder, and no longer just a loud hum, but actually has a quick hammering effect to it. As for "overkill" I think there is no such thing ...once you get it regulated (unless you are running that 100cfm 4barrel holley they are talking about on the other thread ).
I ran a carter electric that was quiet compared to most. It`s hard to find them. They are not popular but it had a decent GPH rating (if I remember right it was around 100 gph) it kept one of my motors fed at 6psi on a cowl mounted gauge thru the quarter. That was only a 12.80 car though. I`m not sure if they even make them anymore but it might be worth looking for it.
Well ,this isn`t a very good pic of mine but its mounted to a piece of aluminum that is Bolted to the trunk floor right beside the frame rail. the plate is insulsted from the floor with a strip of rubber, the bolts holding the plate to the floor have rubber washers top and bottom, the Fuel pump bracket has a strip of rubber between it and the aluminum plate.......Still LOUD! I think I agree with Dennis on this one, just doesn`t matter how you do it, it will be loud.
