Woah? When did i say you couldnt put a 351 in with out shaving the towers? Never did buddy. I said the 351 will be very snug and hard to change the spark plugs unless you shave the towers never said it couldnt be done might wanna go back and reread it.

maybe you should spend a little less time searching and a little more time in the shop trying to make things work:thumbs2:

i have manual steering, and it took hitting the right angles to get the hedders to slide in. manuevering the engine around , but other then that they fit well

A 351W has a taller deck height 9.5" inch vs. 8.2" inch for the 302.
Also, it has larger diameter crank journals and a wider intake manifold.
The distributor is taller and it features 1/2" inch head bolts instead of the 302's 7/16" inch head bolts.

i have no problem getting my plugs in and out

if you shave your shock towers, you lose stability

so when your hitting 120+ your car starts to wobble

id rather not shave my shock towers, even if it means it takes an extra 15 min to change plugs

I dont want any problems and am not trying to start any. Just everything i have read says what your saying is impossible. I am just gonna keep my mouth shut until somebody else chimes in.

wrong.... I have built both.....and dynoed both many times......351 are taller and wider.....PERIOD
Think about itlike this if you make something taller that is in a V config it has to get wider......I can draw you a pic if you want....lol or you can look at a 302 vs 351 w intake

you do realize that cams swap between the 5.0l and the 5.8land either can be run in each engine......the only difference is that you would need to wire your igntion wires accordingly.....not only that but the 5.0lho engine uses a 351w firing order from the factory

then you do not have a 351w in your car......many members here have tried only to have to cut/bend/etc.....

When done properly shaving the shock towers will not make your car handle any worse.....you do realize you just do not cut them out and leave big gapping holes....you fill them back in with the correct thickness metal.....just more flush

    Sidesho,

351W is 1.5 inches wider than a 302. Measure the motor out of your parts car and compare it to the one you swapped in.

You look like you have a LOT more room around your headers and oil filter than I do on my 351W. Those headers would not fit mine... they would run right into the upper A-arm bolts.

In the pics that you show in your threads, your motor looks more 302 than 351 to me... I would like a better shot from 3/4s front to be sure, but 85 percent certain right now.

Run the casting numbers on your block and I think you will find you have a later 302 (which does have the same firing order as a 351....or ... swap in a later 302 cam or a 351 cam and you would have the same firing order in an earlier 302).

    Stwjester,

If you are strapped budget-wise ... go with a 302-based motor. 351 gets complicated.

I have a 351 in mine ... next time it is out of the car, if it needs anything more than rings and bearings, a 331 stroker will go in there instead. (not cheap either, but fits much better ...). Strokers were not as easy when I did the swap 14 years ago.
