i have no clue what could of caused this or for the throttle to get stuck wide open when i finally got it started it just all confuses me.
Your problem sounds like more than just the water pump. The water pump damage might be the result partly of the throtle staying wide open. Check the throtle spring and linkage for breakage or loose parts. Good luck.
I may have a non grabber hood . I will have to check it to see the condition of it.I am about 150 miles west of You .
I have a rusty hood that is pretty bad on the inside but the outside sheet metal aint bad at all. You can have it. I will be going to my daughters in Camden NC for Thanksgiving and pass through Chesapeake. I could hook up with you somewhere if you want it.
October must be a bad month for water pump housings. The same thing happened to a '73 Maverick I had at the time on October 24, 2004. Fortunately, my hood was up and I only had to replace parts and not sheet metal. http://mmb.maverick.to/showthread.php?t=11068&highlight=water+pump Sorry, pictures have been removed for a long time.
yea that could of gone totally bad thats why after this im getting an electric fan never really thought how dangerous they could be if it got off somehow and if someone was near it who knows what could happen.
Your damn lucky your head wasn't not under the hood when all hell broke loose... Your problem could be a fan out of balance
hmmm after seeing this and almost loosing a couple fingers earlier this summer on my 200 UNSHIELDED fan blade. I might do the taurus fan upgrade when I drop in my 302. I'll tell ya THAT woke me up was leaning in to adjust timing and the tips of two fingers just touched the blades and went ta-ting ! I had forgotten it was wide open. No damage whatsoever but we all know what could have been.
It looks to me like the motor mount is bad. He fired it up, the engine torqued over locking the throttle wide open and the fan hit the hood- broke the pump and into the radiator. Cables aren't suppose to lock up like that but I have seen it happen.......
dude that makes a ton sense now that i think of it cus they are the stock motor mounts from what i know of. ill have to check them when i start fixing it thanks paul explains why i have so much damage to my hood hmmmmmm
