WOW, thanxs Paul for your reply. I will get this 1975 maverick checked out for sure. I wish I had known this back when I had my 1973 maverick and had somebody that knew this who could have told me BUT I did'nt. The 73 was an automatic. Thanxs for replying to my post
This warning is stuck to my dash pad. Some cars had it and some didn't. http://mmb.maverick.to/gallery/show...e&direction=ASC&imageuser=14117&cutoffdate=-1
There were video clips that would hit the news, etc back in the day, of people chasing cars that were doing reverse loops in parking lots unattended and idling... and they all seemed to be Ford products. These scenes usually ended up with a broken driver side window, because even at idle, the cars were a bit too fast for someone to open a door and jump in to stop it. Break the window and dive in that way ....
They sent me a baby seat air bag warning sticker couple years after I bought a '96 Eclipes to put over the factory sticker on the sun visior
This is why I invested in a $7 dollar chock block from harbor freight. If I ever need to leave the car un-attended and running (even though I'm driving a manual now, I've mostly owned automatics) I pull the chock from behind my seat and make sure my car isn't going anywhere. Thankfully I can push and pull the light cars around on my own. I had the e-brake fail on my 71 while doing a tune-up one day, had to hold it for 5 minutes while yelling my head off before someone came along to hit the brake for me. Ever since I always use the chock no matter what. I should have known better, my uncle always used to chock my grandmothers car for her. I was playing in it one day threw the caddy in reverse, yay for the chock. Even stopped my granny from some DUIs probably. She'd come back in yelling that the car wouldn't move and pass out.
Is your parking brake on your current Maverick working good? If not you should get it fixed and have no worries. I just re-did mine. Luckily the frt cable was fine but I had to get new rear cables from NAPA. Works like new.
My E - Brake works fine, but I still wouldn't trust it to hold the car if it goes into reverse with the engine running!
I've noticed that too. The one time that I forgot to take the brake off, I could back up, but not go forward!
True it can still roll backwards with the parking brake on, but she was already advised to repair the shifter bushings if needed and to make sure it's in park all the way. The only other suggestion would be never let it run in park. My shifter bushings are good, shifter is adjusted good, parking brake works good and I make sure it's in park all the way....so I let mine idle in park. That is till it jumps out and hits a tree.
I got one in the mail for my '68 Fairlane. I am thinking it was very early in the '80's some time. I know I had owned the car for 6 or 8 years at that point.
