What would the Maverick look like today if it hadn't been discontinued?

    correct me if i'm wrong...

but i don't think mercury would bring back the comet after nixing the couger.

i heard that the mercury division is being phased out...they've got 5 vehicles as it stands, 2 are the same with different options(Grand Marquis and the Marauder...but then the Crown Victoria[can't get used to not calling it an LTD] is the same car as the GM, so...) and the Sable, Mountineer and Monteray share Ford counterparts as well...

of course, theres 2 new models availble next year, so i may have heard wrong. i haven't done full research into this, its just what i heard somewhere...so don't start panicing yet!

AngurisNeo; GM doesn't make a large, rear-wheel drive car anymore. The Impala, is a 6cyl, front driver. There is talk of GM going back to rear-wheel drive on it's large and performance cars, so who knows. Same is said of Chrysler. Here at Ford, the Crown Vic, Marquis, and Marauder will remain RWD, at least for the immediate future (at least that is as of today!!!).

I think with the history of the maverick and its replacements it went something like this: Maverick, Granada, Fairmont, Ltd (the smaller one, never understood the same name on two different size cars) then this is where it branches off and not clear. The Taraus replaced the Ltd but I think it would have gone more towards the Tempo as the Escort was the replacement of the Pinto. If you say it was the Tempo it was then replaced by the Contour. Then the Escort and Contour mated and gave birth to the Focus. But then the Escape which is the Euro. Maverick shares the same platform as the Focus but only with an optional 4 wheel drive. So in reality Ford was not too far off from the orgins with the Euro Maverick to the original name. I know I just really stretched that one, but I gave it some thought.
I am glad the Maverick was killed becuase they would have destroyed its image that it has now. It is now thought of more as peace of history and it is unique. I just rember my parents joking when my mom was getting rid of her Maverick 12 years ago about how strange it would be when that car would be a classic. Just think one day some one is going to think the same about the Focus or even the early model Escorts. Well that is my $.02 and then some.
