build what you like. No matter what it is. There are gonna be times when you are broke, with bloody knuckes, with a pile of parts that don't fit/are wrong/or didn't work, and the ONLY thing that will keep you working on that car is because YOU love it.

By the way, that goes for women, too!

    Welcome!

I say visit the Gallery on this site bring your mom in the room and show her what an "ugly" Maverick CAN look like with a little work. :)

Couple of tid-bits for the 16 yo to chew on....

    Welcome! by the way...

Your mom grew up with Mavericks buzzing around everywhere.
There were a gazillion sold. They were dirt cheap and looked down upon.
She probably has been around, and maybe even looked down her nose at plenty of Mavs when she was in some form of school. They were probably ragged out too.
I will take some heat here, but the Mav was to her, what an old Neon is to you. Cheap, ugly, used up, transportation.

I was like you when I was young. I longed for a Mustang, but couldn't afford one.
The Maverick used most of the same parts, styling, engines, and upgrades as the Stangs of the same period, but they were dirt cheap.
Today they aren't as cheap as they used to be, but the fact is I still can't afford a Stang!

I don't know about your mom, but my 15 year old's mom spent a lot of time in a Maverick back seat back in the day! :D

    Welcome
    Dave

skip the back seat unless your a midget, there isnt enuf room in front either (even with a bench) for anything but driving. tell your mom that,....that may be a better reason for her to let you have one:D

Hmm, 38 in the username and located in Florida. My best guess is Matt Laremore..? Fill me in. I've been talking to Murphy alot about Mavericks lately. He's building one of those Cobra kit cars with the Mustang drivetrain and suspension. I think a Maverick may be in his future. (y)

welcome to the board. nice mavericks get a lot of comments and looks because not everyone has them. they are different. like others have said go up to the top of the page and click on the gallery site. there's lots of nice mavericks and comets to show your mom the potential. since your in florida, a word to the wise. if you go to look at one bring along a gallon of water and pour it into the cowls. the slotted area in front of the windshield. make sure the owner says okay. if any water comes out inside the car, under the dash, pass on it. this is the most rust prone area of the car and the hardest to fix. i'd also pass if the owner says not to do it. good luck.

mavericks are a lot lighter than mustangs or camaros... and with the right setup they are very consistant and fast...just look at our drag racing forum and go to the timeslip database and you will see some time slips

the maverick will be fun to work on... it is a simple design on the car and doesnt take much to work on it. they also dont have the miles of wire that some other cars have... and personally, i like the fact that i never see more than 1 or 2 on the road at a time. in fact, since i moved to iowa this past march, i have seen 5 mavericks ... mine... 3 at cordova race track and one sitting by a house when i was lost... (still havent been able to find it).

i say get the maverick.. fix it up a little and enjoy it.... they are built FORD tough and have a history.. and you will have people coming up to you and saying," man, i had one of those when i was your age." etc...

    good luck
